BURNLEY’S annual May Day festival returns on Bank Holiday Monday, promising a host of fun family activities.
The day will begin with a parade, led by the Red Rose Brass Band, from the town hall to Towneley Park, setting off at noon. Events at the park will start around 11 a.m. with the fun fair (which opens on Sunday) and the various charity and trade union stalls around the field and in the marquee.
New for this year is an “It’s a Knockout” event, run in conjunction with Brunshaw Action Group, which will begin at noon in the park. There will also be donkey rides and stalls in the marquee.
This year’s headline speaker is Ivan Lewis, Shadow Minister for Culture, Media and Sport. Other speakers are Coun. Julie Cooper, leader of the Labour group on Burnley Borough Council and John Hobson from the Haldane Society of Socialist Lawyers. The speakers will follow the arrival of the parade around 1 p.m.
