Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock these days, you’ll know the Trials games simply by name. If not, they are games which test your skill by making you navigate obstacle courses on a motorbike manipulated only by the rider’s posture. Trials Fusion brings the series to the future setting stages in bases and testing facilities with moving platforms and spaceships. It’s a cool premise that works and the developers have clearly worked hard to make sure Awesome Max Edition tops them all.

Aside from the base game, Awesome Max Edition crams in all of the season pass DLC including Riders of the Rustlands and Empire of the Sky and the newest content, the Awesome Level Max DLC which features a gun wielding cat riding a fire breathing unicorn, I am not joking. This part of the game is a surreal experience. The Unicorn control just as the bikes do and has its very own adventure mode which is nothing more than a sequence of expertly designed levels. It’s a constant assault on the optic nerve and you won’t be able to help yourself but laugh every-time you fail. Speaking of failure, you can do so as many times as you want in any of the tracks featured and when it happens, you can restart at a recent checkpoint or start the level over. Restarting from a checkpoint comes with a penalty however which affects your overall score.

The tracks are superbly designed. It’s clear a lot of thought and trial and error has gone into them. Some thrilling some test your patience but I can’t say I didn’t enjoy a single one. Bursting down a huge cliff as you score huge air at the end of a ramp is breath-taking made even more so during the FMX events which require you to perform stunts for points. It’s incredibly fun and for the first time in the series multiplayer is here which sees you racing your friends locally or across the wire which makes for a fantastic party game. It was a scream and superbly competitive.

Trials Fusion Awesome Max Edition looks beautiful on the PS4 as the assortment of locales shows off its graphical prowess. Gritty warzones, Star Wars-esque battlegrounds, hidden bases and icy plains are just a few of the environments you’ll see here all of which was easy on the eye. Sometimes I was so interested in what was happening in the background, I found myself crashing time and time again, I didn’t regret it one bit.

Pros

Tonnes of content will keep you playing for some time.

All of the DLC is included.

Futuristic setting works.

Multiplayer is great fun.

Track designs are masterful.

Cons

The Awesome Level Max content was surreal but short lived.

The Unicorn riding cat doesn’t quite fit in.

Can be frustrating.

Summary

Trials Fusion Awesome Max Edition is great value for money. With all DLC’s squeezed in there’s stacks to keep you playing and every track here is thrilling and testing. Not only that, but they look amazing too. This is a game for everybody.
