Game review: Grand Theft Auto 5

There’s no denying it Grand Theft Auto V is one of the biggest and most iconic games ever to hit our consoles, and if you are like me and have a next gen console the prospect of not playing this game is a bit of a let-down.

Thankfully Rockstar games didn`t take long to realise its potential on next gen consoles and so we have the re-release of GTA V in glorious 1080p!

Now there are a few tweaks in this next gen version first off is the enhanced graphics with new textures and better lighting and weather effects and it looks awesome, a new dynamic depth of field system also works well.

There are more vehicles and people moving around as well plus better detail in the buildings, vehicles and the general environment.

The big thing that is new to this version is the ability to play the game in first person mode which works well to an extent, I don`t know if it’s just my preference but I still prefer playing in third person mode, I also noticed that certain weapons don`t work when playing first person, a glitch I am sure Rockstar will sort with future updates.

We already reviewed this a while back and it is an excellent game and with the ability to upload your progress from your old 360 account is a great idea, because some of us don`t want to start again from scratch.

The on-line play has also been enhanced and now up to 30 players can play at once so you can literally raise your own gang to cause mayhem (that’s if you have that many friends) there is no loss of frame rate and even though I didn`t come across many players on-line.

There are a number of exclusive activities, weapons and vehicles available and it also features over a 100 new songs.

Summary

If you are new to GTA and have a next gen console then this is a must buy, for all you people who have already played this on last gen consoles will you be willing to cough up another 45 notes for a game you have already played?

For me this version is way better in every aspect and if you play on line then it’s worth getting a copy, I am not so sure about the first person mode though, it’s a nice novelty but in practice it can be a real pain and I ended up going back to the normal view after a while.

GTA V is of course an outstanding game and the graphics on the next gen version are superb.
