Game review: Disney Infinity 2.0 Marvel Heroes Starter Pack

We are all well aware that the season is rapidly approaching that all parents dread, yes it’s pester power time and Disney have jumped on the band wagon early with the release of Disney Infinity 2.0.

Disney, love them or hate them have been responsible for creating some of the greatest characters and movies for kids over the years and now they have acquired Marvel it’s not surprising that they would soon be exploiting that in the gaming world.

The Disney infinity Marvel Heroes starter pack comes in a large box with three figures Iron man,Thor and black widow and as with Activisions, Skylanders more figures are available to buy at an extra cost.

If you played the original or have tried Skylanders you will be aware that to play as other characters you have to place them on the pad provided. With Disney Infinity 2.0 you also get a thing called a play set which is either a model or a token that sits on the pad and opens new missions.

    I played the Xbox one version of this and was expecting the graphics to be much better really; the open world setting of New York is pretty bland and uninspiring, but it is fun and a fair amount of it is destructible so from a kid’s point of view that’s a bonus.

    As a follow up game I was surprised at the amount of glitches in this game I would have thought a company like Disney could have ironed these out by now.

    Each character has their own moves and powers but they basically do the same thing and you can collect up grades as you go. One of the things I like about this game is when you upgrade your character it is saved on the figurine itself, ideal if you want to take it to a friend’s house to play.

    There are a number of vehicles available which all characters can use and it’s all pretty basic stuff.

    Mission wise Disney infinity 2.0 is loaded with them, with plenty of challenges to complete which should keep the kids busy for a while.

    You can have two players at the same time which makes for more fun. I tried this out on my two nephews aged 8 and 10 and they loved it, the controls are simple and they can get stuck in straight away.

    A new feature in Disney Infinity 2.0 is the Toy box which allows you to build your own games, it’s a great idea in theory but a bit of a nightmare in practice, and a little too time consuming and fiddly for my liking. It reminded me of a simplified Minecraft, but the boys enjoyed making their own levels and tracks and using them.

    Disney Infinity 2.0 Marvel Heroes Starter Pack will be a winner with kids because it is easy to play, plenty of missions and they can collect the figures. It’s not for grownups really yet it is fun to play with the kids.

    I think this game will be adorning many a Christmas tree this year it does have plenty of appeal and younger gamers can play it without difficulty.
