Chatburn butcher's pork pie praised by top BBC radio presenter

Roy Porter butcher's pork pies featured on Chris Evans' show this morning between 7 and 8am as part of a feature on National Pie Week.

Radio Two DJ Chris has been celebrating the best of the country's pies all week and pie makers have been sending in pies for him to taste.

This morning one of them was one of Roy Porter butcher's pork pies which Chris said was in the top three of all the ones he had tried this week.

Chris sent a slice to weather presenter Carol Kirkwood and her reaction was played back at 7-45am.

Butcher Roy Porter retired from the business after 53 years in October last year. The business, which is based on Bridge Road, has been taken over by 42-year-old Anne Ingham, and her husband Jack (46).

Mother-of-two Anne did work experience for Roy when she was 14 years old and became a full-time employee at the age of 16.

Anne and her team sent the pork pies into Chris Evans on Monday after hearing his National Pie Week feature.

"We couldn't believe it when he started talking about our pie, we didn't expect to get on. He mentioned it around four times - which is just amazing," said Anne.

"Customers have been coming into the shop all morning saying they'd heard the show."

Roy Porter butchers produce more than 2,000 pies a week, baked in their tiny on-site bake house.
