For the first time in 93 attempts the West Enders will take on rivals Burnley in the competition’s showpiece, held at the Brooks Foundation Ground on August 5th.

“In 2004 we raised the bench mark for future finals but for 2018 we intend to take the organisation and delivery to a totally different level,” he said.

“Hopefully, weather permitting, we can ensure this final is the real showcase the Worsley Cup final deserves to be.

“We learnt a lot from 2004 and feel as a club we have become more organised and more than capable of the delivery of larger events, it’s paramount to us that everyone comes and enjoys the day.

“We promise the people who come will get value for money and that supporters and players alike, win or lose, will know they have been part of a special day.”

Lowerhouse will look to keep the pressure on Lancashire League leaders Walsden this weekend.

Ben Heap’s side, who are second in the table and 16 points adrift from the summit, welcome Littleborough to Liverpool Road on Sunday.

Meanwhile Burnley, who dropped to seventh in the division following defeat to the West Enders, travel to Ladyhouse to tackle Milnrow.

Unbeaten leaders Walsden are at home to Great Harwood, third place Ramsbottom host East Lancs at Acre Bottom and defending champs Clitheroe are at Bacup.
