This morning, the Burnley athlete came through Group A with a best throw of 71.07m, achieved in the second round, after her first effort found the net in the Bird’s Nest.

Her third throw was also a foul, but she had done enough to finish fifth in Group A, and eighth overall, earning a place in the 12-strong field for Thursday’s final, which takes place at noon.

Sophie, formerly with Pendle AC, will throw fourth.
