Michael Francis Bann and David Michael Wheeler, both 34, will travel down to the country’s capital to take part in the 26.2-mile challenge on April 23rd in aid of Children With Cancer UK.

Michael, a former Royal Marine and one-time landlord at the Four Alls Inn, Higham, is looking to follow in the footsteps of his father, Kevin, who has completed five marathons.

Meanwhile David, a hi-tech expert turned paramedic, is determined to conquer his most arduous venture to date after becoming a dad for the first time.

“I’ve always wanted to do one,” said former Fence FC defender Michael. “It was on my bucket list. I’m a big football fan as well so reading everything about young Sunderland fan Bradley Lowery also helped me choose our charity.”

Running partner David added: “I feel that I’ve conquered the business world and the medical world and now I want to conquer the sporting world. I want to step out of my brother, Steven’s, shadow because he is the athlete of the family.

“I’ve watched the London Marathon for many years on the TV and that gave me the inspiration to apply. It’s all for a great cause, that’s the main thing.

“We wanted to choose a charity that everyone would support. Nobody likes to see children suffer from these horrible illnesses and Children With Cancer UK is helping in the fight to save young lives.”
