Reds’ squad stands up to the test against Blackpool Sea Eagles

The locals started strongly with an early try by centre Richard Murray. The try was set up by debutant Steve Kent, who broke through the Blackpool defensive line. A quick play the ball to Marcus Farnworth saw the ball go through several sets of hands for Murray to crash over.

Blackpool were struggling to cope with the pace of Marcus Farnworth and Will Holden around the ruck area, and a break from deep by Holden saw the supporting Farnworth score under the posts.

The visitors were then penalised for slowing the ball down in the tackle. The penalty was taken quickly and Kent found himself in space to score.

Further infringements saw Blackpool pinned in their own half. Another break by Kent, supported by second row partner Craig Wiseman, resulted in another try to make it 24 -0.

There was no let up for the Sea Eagles, as Holden’s break from his own half was supported by Farnworth to score again.

Strong running by the Burnley pack once again saw them punch holes in the Blackpool defence. A break by the impressive Jammal Isghar saw another try being scored to end the half 34-0 ahead.

In the second half, Eddie Blake was rewarded with his first try for the club.

With game now appearing to be in the bag, Burnley and Pendle didn’t let up and continued to turn the screw.

Some good footwork by the 17-year-old winger Celyn Lennard, saw him beat a number of defenders near the touch line to find the supporting Farnworth, who raced away to score under the posts.

Further tries by Holden and Farnworth extended the lead to 58-0.

Blackpool Sea Eagles were rewarded with a well-deserved try to make the final score 58-4.

The next fixture is tomorrow at the Prairie Playing Fields, against Cadishead Rhinos, kick-off 2-30 p.m.
