The fixture looked to be heading the same way when Colne and Nelson took an early 5-0 lead but Burnley showed character to fight back to score eight unanswered points.

First they earned a penalty under the posts where fly-half Chris Knowles put three points on the board, sparking a real battle in torrential rain and on very heavy ground.

The heavy ground meant that Burnley had to take the ball forward in-hand. Front row Joseph Drea, Callum Hendleman and Rhys Sanders faced a strong Colne and Nelson pack.

Wajahat Kabber played a key role in the victory, not only through his exceptional tackling but also sweeping across the backs which ultimately led to him scoring the winning try in the second half.

Fly-half Chris Knowles kicked well and tackled hard as always.

When conditions allowed he and centres Will Ogden and Josh Uren along with wingers Ali Hshren and Tom Graveston ran with the ball yet under these conditions it was their tackling and determination that helped hold back the Nelson wide attacks.

Answering the long kicks from Nelson, full back Aodan Hardman took the game back to Nelson again and again to earn a hard fought 8-5 win.
