Burnley and Pendle start season with home defeat

Burnley and Pendle RLFC went down 34-12 to Salford City Roosters B in their opening game of the season.

Salford crashed over within two minutes, and a second try was not long in coming.

The locals pulled a score back when, on the last tackle, a deft kick by Will Holden saw the ball ricochet back into his hands, converted by Shaye McCullough.

But two late tries in the half saw Salford turn around with a 22-6 lead.

Burnley and Pendle started the second half strongly, and Sam Walker raced almost the full length of the field before finding McCullough to score under the posts. He converted his own try.

Unfortunately, the physicality of the opposition told as the Roosters extended their lead with two late tries to run out winners.
