Pendle Hill hosts North West ski contest

a VERY special day of skiing for people from across the region was held on the slopes of Pendle Hill.

Pendle Ski Club, the premier venue for high quality outdoor skiing in the North of England, joined forces with the Liverpool School Sport Partnership to provide a superb ski competition tailored to meet the special needs of children and adults with learning difficulties.

Fifty competitors of all ages and including schools and groups from the Ribble Valley, Liverpool, Burnley, Chorley, Ormskirk, Rawtenstall and the West Midlands enjoyed a demanding day of competition.

The competitors, some of whom had only been skiing for a very short time, gave everything they had to compete to the very best of their ability but always in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

An army of hi-vis-clad helpers prompted, guided and helped and deserved the praise heaped on them by club chairman Terry Watters.

The technical support from Pendle Ski Club race organisers, in this different field of work, was outstanding and deserved the accolades given by Keith Parrish, Technical Director for Special Olympic Skiing UK.

At the presentation and closing ceremony, competitors, staff, parents, carers and helpers all reflected on what had been a tremendous day. The competition was hard fought, the successes of everyone were celebrated and new friendships were forged.
