Forest faced new opposition in their sixth game of the season, hoping to extend their superb start.

Northern’s attacking play came mostly down the middle, and 10 minutes in, they took the lead, slipping the ball past the keeper to go 1-0 up.

The Forest goalkeeper had been on alert for the first 15 minutes, but the locals were beginning to have their own breakaways, and a cross by Cathy Waters was slipped into the circle for Karen Nuttall to tip it through the keeper’s legs.

Forest had again kept their discipline, and a motivational speech by coach Scott Hornby saw them enter the second half in determined mood.

They quietened Northern, neutralising much of the midfield play and frustrating their players.

This resulted in Northern being issued two green warning cards for wild tackles.

Forest continued to push for the win, and after a short corner, the Northern defence stopped Karen Nuttall’s shot on the line with a foot.

A penalty flick was awarded and Olivia Bythell stepped up, in confident mood, and fired the ball into the back of the net.

With 15 minutes left, Forest kept their composure, snuffing out anything Northern had to offer.

A last push saw Northern with a penalty corner, putting players and supporters on edge, but once again their attempt was thwarted and Forest saw off their latest challengers to clinch another victory.

The seconds drew 2-2 with Lancaster, with Judith Hind scoring and Cath Hutchinson scoring.

The thirds were without a game.
