Pendle Forest are out of the cup

PENDLE Forest were knocked out of the Investec All England Over 35s’ Cup by Carlisle at the weekend.

Both teams applied good pressure in the first 10 minutes, but a defensive mistake by Sarah Towers resulted in Carlisle capitalising on the error and Forest were 1-0 down.

After sustained pressure Forest were able to equalise, with Karen Nuttall timing her shot to perfection and finding a gap inside the left post.

A quick start from Carlisle resulted in a a second goal, leaving Forest 2-1 down at half-time.

Play resumed and Forest started to pass the ball around but could not convert their chances.

Carlisle scored again, leaving Forest with little hope.

However, the locals began to make a comeback but it was too little, too late and only managed a consolation goal by Cath Hutchinson, leaving Forest out of the cup.

Sunday saw the first round of the Lancashire Under 13s’ League.

Forest started strongly with good attacking play from Niamh Maloney and Eleanor Graham.

Katie Goodwill and Annabel Smith supported the forward play and allowed Leah Wilkinson to win a free hit and pass the ball onto Graham, who slotted the ball into the back of the net.

Longridge fought back and keeper Jennifer Lee made some good saves, before a quick break from Longridge resulted a goal.

In the second half Forest increased their efforts and put Longridge under pressure, with Kafia Chir making some crucial tackles in midfield.

A break from Forest resulted in Smith picking up the ball from midfield and shooting from the top of the D, making the score 2-1 to Forest - a pleasing start to the campaign, with the next round on January 20th.
