After their recent slump in Section B of the Ribblesdale Cricket League, Padiham got back to winning ways when sweeping aside Brinscall at the Arbories to stay in the hunt for promotion.

After former skipper Callum Clarke (18) and Nathan Whitehead (16) combined forces in an opening stand of 38, the hosts lost wickets at an alarming rate.

At 60-5 it was the visitors who were favourites to go on and triumph in the fixture until the lower order polished Padiham’s final tally.

A knock of 31 from Rhys Meehan provided the home side with a slightly more competitive total while Paul Leach (14), Toby Burrows (19) and Curtis Meehan (12 not out) all hit double figures to take the score to 145.

In the reply, three wickets apiece for paid man Brady Barends (3-22), Burrows (3-30) and Curtis Meehan (3-16) severely dented the away side’s hopes of taking anything away from Well Street.

Phil Lowe (31) and Ian Chaplin (24) were the only batsmen to impact on the innings as Padiham sailed over the line by a margin of 60 runs to remain in striking distance of leaders Barnoldswick and Salesbury.

Elsewhere, Read’s pursuit of LCB Knockout Cup qualification took another almighty hit as they lost out by 46 runs to defending champions Clitheroe at Chatburn Road.

Great Harwood’s victory over Oswaldtwistle Immanuel at New Lane now means Joey Marshall’s men are 26 points off the pace.

The hosts were restricted to a manageable total of 137-9 thanks to professional Ravi Jangid’s input with the ball.

The Indian cricketer recorded figures of 5-27 in a 17-over spell while Andrew Rushton added 3-42.

However, the away side missed a superb opportunity to capitalise as five batsmen were sent packing without scoring.

Only Marshall (24) and Jangid (46 not out) reached double figures in the chase.
