FIVE years ago this weekend, hot air balloons in all colours and shapes floated into the sky above Burnley in the sixth annual balloon festival.

As the event kicked off on the Friday night the heavens opened, but on Saturday and Sunday the sun shone on thousands of people watched world-record-breaking strongman Mr John Evans smash several of his own Guinness World Records.

Also entertaining the crowds were Bill Heslop and his sheepdogs and daredevil stunt act the Vander Brothers.

Other attractions included a beer tent, and Sunday afternoon saw the final of the Burnley’s Got Talent competition.
