Sign up now for Pendle Witch Walk to mark 400th anniversary of Lancashire Witches

PENDLE Hill is to be invaded by witches this August, as organisers of a charity walk to mark the 400th anniversary of the witch trials are urging attendees to wear witch costumes and fancy dress!

The Pendle Witch Walk takes place on Saturday, August 18th – the exact 400th anniversary of the trials. The circular walk will begin in Barley and take in the summit of Pendle before returning to Barley, where there will be refreshments and entertainment for walkers.

The event aims to raise thousands of pounds in sponsorship money – every penny of which will be donated to Pendleside Hospice.

Organisers say they want to mark this defining event in the area’s history with a spectacular family-oriented event.

Simon Tattersall, one of the organisers, said: “We’re inviting as many people as possible to get involved in what will be a fun day with a few surprises. You’re invited to come along in fancy dress as we want as many ‘Pendle Witches’ present as possible. To take part, all you have to do is register on the website – www.pendlewitchwalk.co.uk

“We also want the event to be a major fund-raiser for Pendleside Hospice. Every penny raised from registration and sponsorship will go directly to Pendleside Hospice.”

Simon added: “There are of course some costs associated with an event of this nature – food, T-shirts, booklets – so we’re urging as many people as possible to sign up, but also to raise as much sponsorship as possible! By working together, we can really make a difference for Pendleside Hospice in 2012.”
