Should we rename Big Ben to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee?

MEMBERS of Parliament have been considering whether to rename Westminster’s famous Clock Tower - Big Ben - to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this year.

Many MPs have signed a cross-party Commons motion calling for the iconic structure to be renamed Elizabeth Tower to mark the Queen’s 60-year reign.

Another of the palace’s towers, the Victoria Tower, was named after the only other monarch to reach 60 years on the throne - Queen Victoria.

What do you think? Is this a good idea or should Big Ben’s retain its name?
