VISITORS to Clitheroe Castle Museum can find out more about the story behind the Pendle Witches on Wednesday, April 25th.

At 2 p.m. local author and former museum manager Chris Goodier will present a fascinating talk based on her latest book, “1612: The Lancashire Witches”.

Chris will look at the witches in the context of the times in which they lived – a period of religious, social and political turmoil – and consider the implications their story has today.

Rachel Jackson, Clitheroe Castle Museum manager, said: “The accused play an important part in local history, particularly in this area, and Chris’s talk will be very interesting and informative.

“There were a lot of religious and political factors that influenced their lives at the time, when belief in witchcraft was widespread. The witches paid the ultimate price for this and Chris’s talk gives a snapshot of what life was like.

“There will also be the chance to buy her new book or to get your copy signed.”

Clitheroe Castle Museum is run by Lancashire County Council on behalf of Ribble Valley Borough Council. For information about the event phone 01200 424568 or e-mail [email protected]
