Gallimaufry Ensemble help Clitheroe Concerts Society celebrate 60 years

CLITHEROE Concerts Society’s next concert in their 60th Diamond Jubilee season will be the highly regarded Gallimaufry Ensemble wind quintet.

This concert will be held on Wednesday December 14th, at their usual venue, the Sixth Form Centre of Clitheroe Royal Grammar School, in York Street. Tickets may be purchased from Clitheroe Music in Moor Lane, the Tourist Information Office in Church Walk, or through the Society’s website (www.clitheroeconcerts.org) where there is detailed information about this concert.

The programme is very attractive, starting with “Trois Piéces Brèves” by Jacques Ibert. Following that is Malcolm Arnold’s “Three Shanties” and Mozart’s “Serenade in C minor”. The final three items are Hindemith’s “Kleine Kammermusik”; “Serenade” by Karl Pilss and Norman Hallam’s “Dance Suite”.

Although it is the Gallimaufry Ensemble who will be playing, they have for this concert two members who usually play with the Aurora Wind Ensemble, combining the two best regarded wind quintets in the UK. The best of both worlds, perhaps!
