Entries wanted for ‘My Lancashire’ photo contest

TWO lucky young photographers will see their work take pride of place in the new Museum of Lancashire.

The Preston museum is in the final stages of a £1.7m. makeover and getting ready for the official re-opening on November 25th.

As part of the build-up to the big day, it is running a photography competition for young people across the county on the theme of “My Lancashire”.

Museum manager Charlotte Steels said: “Whether it’s a favourite shop or cityscape, a country or coastal landscape, we would like young people to send in their favourite views of Lancashire. There are two age categories, under-11s and 12 to 16, and the winning two images will form part of a permanent plaque which will be unveiled during the official reopening ceremony.

“The runners-up will also have their images displayed in the museum for the reopening.”

The winner from each age category will receive £50 in vouchers to spend in Wilkinson Camera shops and a museum Xplorer ticket worth £20. The ticket gives 12 months’ free family access to all 13 of Lancashire County Council’s museums, including Clitheroe Castle Museum and Gawthorpe Hall. One runner-up in each category will receive £20 in vouchers to spend in Wilkinson Camera shops together with a £20 Xplorer ticket.

The prizes will be awarded at the Museum of Lancashire launch event on the afternoon of Friday, November 25th, and the closing date for entries is Wednesday, October 19th.
