Colne Grand Prix bike event to stage Chopper dash

Remember the seventies?

If so, you’ll want to be in Colne on Grand Prix night on Wednesday, July 13th for the Chopper bike dash!

The dash is part of the Colne Grand Prix event run by Pendle Council and Pennine Events and sponsored by local company cottages4you.

There’ll be a Le Mans style start as riders of vintage and new Choppers race from the pits for their bikes and do two laps of the Colne town centre circuit.

The Chopper dash is just before 7 p.m., followed by the support race, with the flag being waved to start the Colne Grand Prix at 8 p.m.

Carl Pawson of the Pendle Raleigh Group, who commutes on his Chopper to work at Boyce’s shop, Nelson, admitted: “We’re all big kids from Colne who remember the classic ChGrand Prix stages oppers of the ‘70s.

“We come from all works of life, from brickies to mechanics, and we even have a gunsmith in the group.

“All generations are taking part in the dash – including young lads and lasses from our club whose parents had a Chopper first time round.

“If you’re a closet Chopper rider, then it’s time to come out!”

Contact Peter Boast at Going Dutch florists on 619916 or Carl on 614412 if you’d like to register to join the dash. Any money collected during the dash will go to the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Trust and Cycle Sport Pendle, a group which encouarges young people to take up cycling.

Coun. George Askew, chairman of Pendle Council’s Colne and District Committee, said: “This is another great reason to be in Colne for the Grand Prix. I wouldn’t miss it for anything and urge Colners and other Pendle residents to come along to a fantastic free event.”
