‘Collecting History’ events locally for new Museum of Lancashire

The Museum of Lancashire will showcase local history and is looking for objects, photographs and real life stories at a special “Collecting History” event on Saturday, June 11th, at Queen Street Mill Textile Museum, in Harle Syke. The day runs from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The only stipulation is that the artefact should relate to at least one of four themes that make up a People’s Gallery: journeys, food, dialect and leisure.

Museum staff will take a photograph and document the items in a brief interview to record the owner’s story and how it relates to one or more of the gallery themes.

The photo, story and interview form will be added to a database staff can use as a contact point when they want to include items in future exhibitions.

The museum’s community outreach officer Kim Klug said: “Objects and photographs don’t need to be old, fancy or valuable, but they should be about individual people, their families or ancestors, and their lives.”

Staff will not be able to value or appraise any objects taken to Queen Street, nor will they be able to accept any donations on the day. Everyone is welcome to attend, but under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Collecting History days are being held throughout the county. Two of the nearest are at Colne Library, from 3 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11th, and on Saturday, June 25th, at Clitheroe Library, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
