Champion clog dancer performs at Bancroft Mill, Barnoldswick

Lancashire Champion Clog Dancer for the last three years Harry Cowgill gave a scintillating performance while

Hilda Elsworth (88), the last surviving Bancroft weaver, told stories from her 41 years working at the mill. They were recorded on video for posterity by the Lancashire Society.

The Craven Radio Amateur Group was also at the mill where they set up a radio station to mark the international Mills on the Air weekend.

During the afternoon they made about 80 contacts with other stations located in mills of various kinds, including windmills in Holland and Belgium, some for grinding cereal, others for pumping water, a far cry from Bancroft’s original purpose.
