W.H. Oddie will close the doors of its Colne Road shop for the last time after 57 years trading.

Prior to that, the shop was run by another baker, Ted Lancaster.

Oddie’s director Lara Oddie said the closure had been brought about by a variety of changes to life in Brierfield, such as the closure of mills, the transfer of sheltered accommodation to Barrowford and children not being allowed out of school at lunchtimes.

The shop employs two staff, one of whom has been relocated and the other has taken voluntary redundancy. Oddie’s has three shops in Nelson, one in Colne, seven in Burnley and Padiham and others in Accrington, Todmorden and Blackburn.
