The fund-raising event was organised by David Belshaw, who lives in the town and started a group on Facebook called “Brierfield Lancashire Now and Then” last year.

The group has gone from strength to strength and currently has almost 600 members, all of whom have connections to Brierfield and who use the Facebook page as a place to share their happy memories of life in the town in days gone by.

Mr Belshaw decided to have a get together for all the members, and so he organised a night at Walter Street Club.

The evening included a disco and dancing, a live band and a raffle. The event proved to be very popular, and tickets sold out within weeks.

Mr Belshaw said: “It was hard work planning and co-ordinating the event, but it went fantastically well.

“We raised a great amount of money for the hospice. I think we’ll do it again next year!

“The hospice is very local to Brierfield and a lot of people have connections to it.

“It’s a very worthy cause to raise money for”.
