Burnley’s Sandygate Amateur Boxing Club hit the bright lights of Blackpool when Will “Bad Boy” Smith faced local favourite D. Caitlain of Fleetwood ABC at the Cliffs Hotel.

Taking the bout at a day’s notice, Harle Syke’s Smith, 15, was not to be outshone!

Straight from the opening bell, Smith took centre stage, controlling the ring.

Making excellent use of his long lead hand, he opened up the scoring instantly.

The second saw the Blessed Trinity Year 11 pupil dominate once more, switching his attack, moving off at angles then returning with power.

His bemused opponent just couldn’t connect with the very savvy Burnley boxer.

The third and final two minute round was Sandygate’s Smith’s best, with his fitness coming to the fore, connecting with a rigid jab and rear hands.

He gave the three judges ringside a easy verdict, with the hot prospect collecting a unanimous 30-27 points victory.

The seaside show was making history, being the region’s first boxing show to box by the new AIBA rules and scoring system, with the old ABA of England now becoming England Boxing, in line with the rest of the world’s boxing.
