Turkey Shoot is a success

TOWNELEY Golf Club’s Open Mixed Turkey Shoot was won by Alan Whalley and Shirley McHugh from Hindley Hall with a score of net 63.2.

Second were Nick and Sue Rae with a score of net 66.

Third were J. and A. Graham from Colne with a score of net 66.6.

The club thank all concerned especially the green staff for all their hard work throughout the year.

Mick Gorton won on the card from the evergreen Jimmy Robertshank in the men’s Turkey Shoot, after both players earned an excellent 44 points.

Pete Hargreaves was third, a point adrift.

Assistant professional Ben Collinson won the nearest the pin award at the 6th, with Ken Heap taking the plaudits at the 17th.

The previous week, Towneley held a four-man team event, and the winners, on a card play-off, with an excellent 98 points, were Mick Canby, Jamie Sturgeon, Roger Phillips and K. Tootle.

Runners-up were the quartet of Anthony Hargreaves, John Gordon Miller, Jimmy Robertshank and Darren Whitaker.

Nearest the pin awards went to Chris Clough at the 6th and Gary Collinson at the 17th.

The season has ended, and the order of merit winner is Gary Turner with 181 points, followed by Andrew Trickett on 156.

Turner and Trickett’s fine season has earned them first and second in the gross eclectic competition, with both players on 54 gross.

New member Neil Wood took the plaudits in the nett eclectic - his tally being 47 nett.

Martyn McEvoy’s 47 earned him runners-up spot.
