Sandygate ABC showed again they are one of the busiest boxing clubs in the North West with three fighters in action at the St John’s ABC show in Salford.
Making his full ring debut, “Smokin’” Joe Crawford (11) was pitted against Manchester’s A. Cowley (Gorton ABC) in a schoolboy contest of three one and a half-minute rounds.
Straight from the opening bell, Crawford cut the ring down, giving his opponent no escape, and barrage upon barrage of rigid ram-rod lead and rear hands penetrated the tight defences of Cowle,y forcing him onto the ropes.
The second saw the Year 6 Wellfield pupil control his phases of attacks, switching from head to body with ease, maintaining control of the contest. The final round saw Crawford show his full repertoire of skills, reverting to boxing on the back foot, countering every advance to take a unanimous verdict.
Also making his debut, Rose Hill’s Cameron “Hurricane” Hird (11) narrowly lost to home boxer A.Robertson in a closely-fought contest.
Stoops’ Reiko “Riot” Rickwood (11) competed in his second skills-bout in as many weeks against J.Beckett (Stockport ABC), proving again what a talent he is, showing dazzling hand speed.
“All the lads performed excellently, “Smokin’” Joe was awesome and looks to have a bright future,” stated coach Nik Tucker. Anyone interested in taking up the noble art can contact the club via www.sandygateabc.com or ring 07855505719.
