Sports star Anya Richmond is continuing to make strides in the rugby world as, despite being just 15, she has been called up to Lancashire Under 18s.
Blessed Trinity Roman Catholic student Anya has had a steady climb up the rugby league ladder playing for school, for Burnley RUFC as well as having county calls up at younger levels and North of England matches.
She was also selected for the England Under 15 Talent Development Group last year - a selection of the top 30 Under 15 girls in England.
Now she is one of the youngest girls in the county squad at Under 18 level after attending trials.
“It was really competitive and I can’t believe it,” said Anya, who also boxes at Sandygate Boxing Club with her two brothers.
“I am getting used to a new role as flanker this season and I am really enjoying it. Our first training session is in Eccles and, while it is tough playing against older girls, I can’t wait.”
Anya also attended a three day summer camp for the North of England squad over the holidays.
“I spent three days in Nottingham and I learned a lot about everything you need to be a professional rugby player,” she said.
