Young Charlie Smith is ready to take on the cream of the crop in English boxing after becoming ABA North West regional champion.

The 12-year-old outclassed highly-touted Chorley ABC protege Mickey Linfoot to take the bout unanimously at Walkden Sixth Form College in Greater Manchester.

After beating his foe, an English champion who was undefeated in 10 previous outings, coach Brian Roche said: “Charlie dominated every round. The work he has done in the gym and the technical work he’s done has paid off.

“He’ll now fight in the quarter-finals of the Class A Schoolboy Championships. We’re very proud and he’s now the ninth North West champion in six years of Roche ABC opening.”

Meanwhile, Roche Boxing’s Adil Hussain earned a unanimous victory on the RAF v Northern Clubs show at Shrigley Hall near Macclesfield.

The 23-year-old, fighting at 67 kg, fought Kevin Mooney and won all three three-minute rounds, in a classy performance.
