Roche Boxing have had a couple of fighters in action over the last couple of weekends.

First up, at Ashton Albion’s show sat the Masonic Hall, Ashton under Lyne, was promising 16-year-old Aqib Mushtaq - brother of Nelson professional Atif.

Aqib, having won eight of his nine previous bouts, took on the London Federation champion from the Five Star Amateur Boxing Club over three two-minute rounds.

And the local fighter emerged triumphant.

Coach Brian Roche said: “Aqib boxed superbly, he won every single round - he’s a quality fighter.”

Then, in the Northern Championship pre-quarter-finals in Walkden, Jesse Shaw took on the fancied Mario Moran from the Rotunda Club in Liverpool.

The 15-year-old gave a good account of himself, but ultimately lost out to a better fighter on the night.

Roche said: “Jesse is strong, but Moran was stronger and just too good for him. There is no shame losing to him, and it is all about learning from this defeat.”
