Medal joy for Burnley’s Black Knights kick-boxers

BURNLEY’S Black Knights had 17 members, supported by family and friends, in action in Birmingham for the ICO English Championships.

Only two members had experience in competition, but all members should be proud and can say they have had a go!

Ryan Marsden won the 40kg Sub/Strike, then the -40kg in Light Contact by default, then moved up a weight division for experience and won bronze in the -45kg Light Contact.

Dad Paul Marsden alsp won bronze in the Light Contact veterans’ division.

The following senior first timers also won medals.

Nathan Jackson won gold in the -63kg Full Contact and then -63kg silver in Sub/Strike.

Gintaras Jonuskis took silver in the -67kg Full Contact, but due to an injury was unable to compete in the Sub/Strike.

Carl Jane claimed silver in the -71kg Full Contact.

Well done to George Stevens and Billy Cormack for a great effort.

For the juniors, Jack McLoughlin won bronze in the -45kg in Light Contact, Sophie Ashworth was a gold medal winner in the -25kg Light Contact, Riona Hartley took bronze in the -35kg Light Contact, James Barker returned with silver in the -50kg Light Contact and Sub/Strike, and Nicole Ravenscroft won gold in the -30kg Light Contact by default.

Fellow juniors Chloe Smith, Bradley Ravenscroft, Adam Brenan, Ewan Hartley and Paul Jackson also impressed.
