KEN Heap was on top form at the weekend at Towneley Golf Club.
His excellent card of 74-13-16 won the Towneley Chalice Trophy. Gary Turner was runner-up (67-4-63) and Stan Boardman was third spot (72-8-64) with Andrew Trickett taking the lowest gross prize.
Nearest the Pin awards went to Alan Hicks at the sixth hole and Martyn McEvoy took the plaudits at the 17th. Jed McCabe continued his run of form by winning the Tuesday Stableford with 41 points and Ian Carruthers won the Thursday Stableford on the card from David Horrocks.
On the Sunday another successful Men’s Open Fourball took place, and the winning team came from Walmsley GC with an incredible total of 103 points. The runners-up were home members Darren Whittaker, Steve Bird, Jimmy Robertshank and Ian Ponton with 96 points.
Nearest the Pin awards went to Kevin Lynch (second), Steve Turner (sixth), Darren Whittaker (16th) and David Leatham (17th).
Captain Mick Bradshaw was on hand to present the prizes with thanks going to organiser Steve Bird and helpers Steve Wyatt, Gary Collinson and John Miller.
Lanky’s Dream Team - Rick Lancaster, Mark Horsefall, Craig Turner and Keith Robinson - won the Men’s Texas Scramble with 55.5. Farmer’s Army were runners-up (55.6) - Jim Fitton, Alan Maxfield, Ernie Whittaker and Glyn Carlin.
Nearest the Pin Awards went to Ian Ponton at the sixth and Chris Turner at the 14th.
Dave Cheetham’s 40 points won the Tuesday Stableford on the card from Scotsman John Gordon Miller. Gary Turner won the Thursday competition on 39 points. Veteran Steve Horrocks was runner-up a point adrift.
• AT Burnley, the Connie Holden competition - one of the club’s Majors - was won by Elsie Thornber (88-15-73), after an 18-hole play-off with Gill Cole (85-12-73).
The Harold Hargreaves competition saw a repeat as Thornber (88-15-73) again edged Cole (88-12-76) into runners-up spot.
The Single Stableford was won by Dawn Elliott with 34 points.
