JIMMY Ellis holed in one at the sixth at Towneley Golf Club - the popular member using his trusty itching wedge for his first-ever ace.
Mark Denwood won the captain’s prize qualifier with an exceptional gross score of 62 to come top of the field.
Gary Turner was runner-up on the card from Jimmy Ellis, both players returning 66.
Geoff Boland’s 66 was good enough to take the Rabbits qualifier competition.
Hymie Clarke and David Plumb’s 68 took them to second and third spot respectively.
The top 32 in each division now go through to the knockout stage, with “Our Kid” Pat O’Hare taking the nearest the pin award at the 17th hole.
Members are reminded that the midweek stableford competitions are now being played on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
On Sunday, the ladies’ section played for the Secretary’s Prize.
The winner, with 37 stableford points, was Linda Perkins, with one more than Sue Muller.
Third, with 33 points, was Rose Pearson.
l AT Burnley Golf Club, the Three-Man team event was won by Stuart Nunn, Ian Doney and Terry Fildes with a very commendable 78 points.
Runners up were Dave Bennett, Seani Durkin and Ian Sellick with 77 points, and third place went to Alan Green, Duncan Ryan and Ian Whalley.
On Saturday, the ELGA Handicap qualifier - from a field of 155 players - was won by Martin Leach (79-15-64).
Second, on the card was Gary Blades (65-scratch-65) ahead of Malcolm Fraser (80-15-65) and Kevin Dilworth (80-15-65).
These four will represent Burnley at Marsden Park Golf Club on Saturday, May 7th.
