Roche Boxing’s big-hitting Jesse Shaw won the North West Region Schoolboys ABAs at the weekend.

On Saturday, Jesse took on Keiren Love of Blackburn with Darwen in the semi-finals, showing his boxing skills as he forced his opponent’s corner throw the towel in.

Then the following day, he was up against Patrick Brown of Sale West in the final.

Jesse was brimming with confidence and worked his opponent out very quickly, with Brown given a standing eight count 18 seconds into the contest.

Immediately after, Jesse moved in and finished the job, with some clean, powerful shots knocking Brown’s head back.

The referee didn’t want to see any more and waved it off.

Jesse now fights again in Walkden to go through to the national finals on May 17th.

Joe Shaw was in action against England squad member Rennie of the Isle of Man in the final of the North West Championships.

Having met each other twice before, with Shaw the winner on both occasions, it was a very close contest, but Rennie emerged victorious.

Meanwhile, England international Dean Thompson was up against the game Charlie Watt (Heart of Devon), coming out a unanimous winner.

Nicky Perry outboxed a tough opponent from Littleborough, winning a unanimous verdict, and Aqib Mushtaq - with six wins out of seven - added another win in a crowd-pleasing bout.

Top of the bill was Owen Thomas, who lost out to the more experienced North West champion Jack Flatley (Halliwell).
