Historic win for Burnley’s squash team

Burnley completed the first half of the season with a hard fought victory against Bury winning 5-0.

Burnley now go into the break in second place, which is the highest position in the clubs history.

Rod Taggart was not at his best at the start of the game coming under terrific pressure from the Bury player. However he dug in to run out a 3-1 winner.

Daniel Whittaker started slowly and lost the first game 15-13 The second game was a marathon before Daniel came out on top 19-17. In the final game Daniel was to strong and went on to win 3-2.

The match of the night was between Steve Morris and Bury’s James Weeks. Steve lost the first game 15-12 but took the next games with a combination of a high floated serves and some measured and controlled squash to run out a 3-1 winner. Steve has now played six games for Burnley and won six.

Graham Riley was just too strong for The Bury player who had no answer to the power of Grahams drives and his beautifully disguised boasts shots winning 3-0.

Last on court was Nik Czernianin who was up against a hard hitting player which suited the equally hard hitting Burnley player. Both players continued to hit the ball as hard as they could until one of them finally lost the rally. In the end it was Nik who lasted the longest in a most frantic game winning 3-1.

Burnley go into the Christmas break in a strong position for promotion.
