After a shaky start to the season, Ektio Burnley senior team, playing in the Manchester League Premiership, has started to come good and demonstrate their true potential.

They travelled for the first two matches of the season and played without conviction and intensity and the results showed it, losing against Rossendale and Tropics 1.

The next two matches were once again away in the cup at Holmes Chapel, where the locals came away with a win, but an average performance, and at home against Trafford.

This match has proved the turning point for the Burnley lads.

The home crowd made the team feel wanted, the players started showing good passages of play and Trafford just pipped the locals in the dying minutes of the fourth quarter 69-66.

Despite this loss, coaches at Burnley saw a glimpse of the old fighting spirit, the older players starting to come on song, the new recruits starting to connect with the rest of the team and the young guns from the juniors contributing to the overall performance.

Burnley travelled then to Blackpool, a very tough court to go and play, and came away with a solid win.

Home advantage was the case in the next match against YMCA, another win 89-50, and then the double clash with Stockport Atlas, in the league and the cup, gave Burnley four wins out of four games.

Coach Cronin is delighted: “We have started playing a little bit better in recent weeks, the players are working better together as a unit on court.

“We have a solid team that can challenge the top of this league, and we have a couple of additions to the team that will give me different options during the season.

“We started the season a little bit behind, and a couple of new players needed to understand the way we play.

“I am confident that we can have a decent season - our target is to get to the play-offs and take it from there.

“It will be nice to improve our final position and challenge for the league title.”
