Lancashire President’s Day at Towneley Ladies Bowling Club on Saturday was held in beautiful weather, with success for two Burnley players.
Mavis Hancock had the honour, as Lancashire’s President, of presenting Michelle Tootle - who plays in the Burnley Town Team - with the President’s Cup, along with the President’s prize of a pair of cut glass wine glasses, together with a voucher.
Michelle’s route to the final began with her beating Sheila Lidford from Chorley 21-16, and her second game saw off another Chorley player; Yvonne Vickers, by the same score.
This saw Michelle into the quarter-finals and again a score line of 21-16, but this time it was Lisa Smith from Southport who lost.
The semi-final was against Trish Russell from Bury, Michelle winning 21-14, and the final was a resounding win of 21-10 against Gill Sutton from Manchester.
A consolation competition was run for all players who lost their first game, and this was won by Alison Heys, who also plays in the Burnley team.
Alison beat Eileen Lester from Chorley in the final.
Mavis, Michelle and Alison, along with Kimberley Medlen and Kelly Walsh from the Burnley team, have also represented Lancashire in the county team this year, and four matches into the season are top of the Inter-Town League.
The presentation was made in Towneley Golf Club, where a handsome buffet was provided for all competitors and invited guests.
Mavis would like to thank the Towneley Park gardeners for the special effort made around the bowling greens for the occasion.
