A LOCAL derby which set out to promote players back into the game was held at Blackburn on Easter Monday, with both sides providing nearly 20 players.

The game was quite mixed, as neither side had trained together, with Burnley scoring the first two tries through Steve Kent, converted by himself, and Matt Crowley.

Then Blackburn scored their two tries, converting one. Luckily their first try was charged down by Burnley players, resulting in a drawn game.

Another strong Burnley performer was Chris Wall, a UCLan Preston student, who plays with Burnley thirds, and from this performance he can push on come pre-season.

Special mention for Tom Cooley, who played 40 minutes at prop, to enable the game to start with contested scrums as usually he operates in the back row.

The full squad was Luca Angelone, Danny Foster, Tom Cooley, Josh Brown, Steve Kent, Ed Taylor, Jack Wilkinson, Rob Metcalfe, Ash Hancock, Wez Hughes, Adam Spencer, Danny Rycroft, Chris Wall, Matt Crowley, Sean Carey, Gavin Gregory, Lloyd Whittaker and Thabo Ntini.

Burnley seconds had a tough Easter, catching up on some postponed games.

On Saturday they beat Aspull 40-12 with tries from Ryan Bradley, Pete Timberlake, Phil Thornton, Gus Ferguson, a Joe Till brace and five Ferguson conversions..

On Monday they went down at Wigan 49-29. Burnley’s scorers were Christian Allanson, Dom Leck, an Adam Lee brace, three Ferguson conversions and a penalty.

Tomorrow Burnley’s first team play Trafford, the seconds travel to Garstang and the thirds host Clitheroe, all 3 p.m. kick-offs. On Sunday the Under 19s play Birkenhead Park (2 p.m.).
