THE President’s Putter- winner at Burnley was David Scaife with a magnificent 78-16-62.
He pipped Steve Thorley (75-12-63) into second place.
In third place, two shots further back, was Phil Hanson (77-12-65).
Best sross on the day went to Dave Heyworth’s 73.
The President’s Day Mixed Texas Scramble was a very competitive Sunday afternoon competition, played in torrential rain for two holes before brightening up into a sunny and breezy day.
This did not affect the scoring of all 18 teams, which was excellent, with the first three all finishing below 60.
Winners were the evergreen Graham Haworth and Geoff Butterfield, ably assisted by Cath Briggs, finishing with 59.
Runners-up were Phil Moore, Jimmy Nutter and lady veteran Heather Slater, and in third place past captains David Holland, John Hall and Sandra Owen.
After the presentation, a very enjoyable buffet was taken in the clubhouse.
The Captain’s Day re-run just about survived the weather, and the winner Graeme Johnson carded an excellent 84-20-64.
Ian Whalley, who had led for most of the day, with a 70-5-65 was edged into second place with Kim Stevens (72-6-66) in third place.
Best Gross prize was taken by Kevin Davies with a 70.
To everybody’s delight and surprise, the over 60’s prize was won by President Charles Bullas with an 87-18-69.
Captain Michael Bentley presented the prizes in the clubhouse prior to a disco, and said he was thankful that the competition was completed at the second attempt and he thanked everybody for their patience and attendance at what had been a protracted competition due to the weather.
• IAN Carruthers was in tremendous form in the Thursday Stableford at Towneley.
He amassed an exceptional 45 points to easily win.
Nick Lancaster was runner-up, five points adrift.
Club treasurer John Buchanan won the Tuesday Stablesford on the card from Mick Horsfall, after both players totalled 41 points.
Assistant greenkeeper Neil Jackson had his first-ever hole in one recently when he aced the par 4 13th hole to card an albatross.
