Burnley Tennis Club make good start to season

BURNLEY Tennis Club’s Open League teams had another successful weekend with some outstanding match results.

The new season is now beginning to take shape and all the Burnley teams are showing up well and are all in the mix at the moment.

In Open Division One, Burnley A beat Parkwood A 4-1 at home.

Iain Taylor and David Whittaker lost their first rubber in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 5-7, but they dug in to win their second rubber, 6-2, 6-4.

Daniel Taylor and Christopher Rowell won both their rubbers, 6-2, 6-0, and then they beat Parkwood’s first pair in three-sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.

In Open DivisionTwo, Burnley B beat Whalley B 4-1, again at home.

Matthew Hargreaves and Adam Walne won both their rubbers, 6-3, 6-4, then they blitzed the Whalley’s second pair, 6-0, 6-0.

Steve Palmer and Elaine Varcoe won and lost a rubber.

They won their first rubber 6-4, 6-0 but went down in the second rubber 4-6, 3-6.

Burnley C beat Accrington A 4-1 away, but Burnley D lost 3-2 at home to Blackburn Northern D.

The D Team were unlucky to lose the match on sets.

Steven Blackadder and Daniel Moorehouse won their first rubber in three sets, 2-6, 6-0, 7-5, but they lost 5-7, 2-6 in their second rubber.

Alun and Jo Heywood, had a strange afternoon, they won their first rubber, 6-1, 6-2, but then succumbed in their second rubber, 1-6, 1-6.

In Open Division Three, Burnley E beat Accrington B 3-2 on countback on games at home.

The E team’s first pairing of Alison Padgett and Craig Barker lost both their rubbers, 1-6, 3-6 and 3-6, 1-6.

Liam Taylor and Peter Perm won both their rubbers in fine style, beating the Accrington B second pair, 6-4, 6-3, then they followed that up by beating their first pair, 6-4, 6-4.

Burnley F beat Parkwood C 5-0.
