Burnley Tennis Club’s summer season recently came to an end, with a National Club League Lancashire Division One title success and promoion to the northern tier - for the first time in the club’s history - to celebrate.
The club then saw Elaine Varcoe and Mick Harris winning the East Lancashire mixed individual final, while Iqraa Khalid won the girls’ Under 14 title, with sister Aksan Khalid runner-up in the Under 12 girls.
In the mixed league, Burnley Mixed A dominated Division One to deservedly win the title for a fourth straight year.
Burnley Mixed B, also in Division One, finished fourth, four points off second place.
Burnley Mixed C suffered relegation from Division One, while Burnley Mixed D had a solid season in Division Two, finishing fifth.
Burnley Ladies’ A won the ladies’ league for the seventh consecutive year, an d Burnley Ladies’ B, after a slow start, picked up valuable points against strong opposition
Open League Burnley A won 13 of 16 games in Division One, finishing second to a strong Blackburn Northern A team.
Burnley B were relegated from Division One on the last game of the season, three points from safety.
Open League Burnley C, playing in Division Two, were crowned champions.
Open League Burnley D showed resilience throughout the season in Division Three, and missed out on promotion by just three points on the lat day of the season.
Open League Burnley E have been the surprise package this season, finishing in fifth place from 10 teams - a great season considering they play clubs’ A, B and C teams.
Burnley Juniors, playing in Division One, found the level tough as they were relegated.
The indoor winter league starts on Sunday.
Burnley have five teams playing across three divisions, and will hope to have as good of a campaign as over the summer.
