KERRY Holding has been selected to compete at this year’s International Catholic Schools’ Student Games in July.

The games are to be held in Malta where Kerry, 16, will be swimming in the National Pool on the outskirts of Sliema.

Kerry, who trains seven times a week at St Peter’s Centre, is ranked in the top 10 in Lancashire in the 50m butterfly and crawl, has attended Burnley Bobcats since the age of seven.

The Blessed Trinity student’s selection comes off the back of a superb year of results for the youngster, who competes at regional level in the North West Championships for her swim squad.

Andy Montrose, assistant headteacher at Blessed Trinity, has expressed his delight on behalf of the college: “We are immensely proud of her and very pleased for her selection – she works very hard.

“Kerry is a star student who has done many swim-based activities to raise money for various charities we support as a college.”

In a fantastic show of the college’s support, Blessed Trinity RC College Parents, Teachers and Friends Association are providing financial aid for what will surely be the trip of a lifetime for Kerry.

This is not the first time Kerry’s talent has been rewarded. In 2010 she got the dream opportunity to fly to the USA to meet idol Michael Phelps and receive training sessions from renowned USA swim team coach Bob Bowman.

Her selection for the games is yet another fantastic achievement and heralds a bright future for the young swimmer.
