Burnley stalwart Tony receives special award

Burnley Rugby Club’s Tony Finnan’s long service to the game and the club was recently recognised at a special event.

Tony was given a special award for his years of voluntary service at the Holden Road club by Lancashire RFU President David Matthews.

Tony has played, coached been chairman, president, selector, linesman, as well as looking after match day money.

In addition, he introduced hundreds of youngsters to the game when he was teaching at St Theodore’s RC High School, Burnley.

Many of those students became actively involved in the game, and are now at the club.

This Sunday, Burnleys veterans travel to Rossendale for a 2 p.m. kick-off – coach leaves 12-30 p.m., all welcome.

The club’s Blues Festival sees bands on tonight at 5 p.m., and tomorrow and Sunday at 5 and 8 p.m.
