BURNLEY-BORN Holly Lam-Moores scored twice as Great Britain Women gave reigning World Champions Russia a scare in their Euro 2012 clash on Saturday.
Britain matched Russia for long periods and only lost out 24-16 when many had predicted a rout.
GB had lost 34-18 to Montenegro last week, and many predicted a similar scoreline against Russia, but they put on a superb display for the 350 spectators at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre.
They trailed 14-10 at half-time, and maintained the pressure on Russia right to the final whistle.
Captain Lynn McCafferty led by example and scored three goals, while six other players, including Lam-Moores, scored two.
Britain resume their Euro 2012 campaign against Poland on March 21st, and are next in action at the Olympic test event, taking place from November 23rd-27th at the Handball Arena in the Olympic Park.
