Burnley’s Danny Derbyshire yet again proved he is the best light heavyweight Thai boxer in Britain.

Danny, who trains out of Burnley’s own prestigious Burnley Thai Boxing Club, added the professional Golden Belt title to his ever-growing collection of championship belts.

Once again there was no need for the judges, but this time Danny won by way of disqualification as his opponent Andy Bakewell head butted Danny twice. Bakewell who trains out of Johnny T’s gym became frustrated due to Danny’s strength, finding it difficult to deal with the Burnley fighter’s relentless onslaught of punches and knees.

After the bell had sounded to end round two, there was an exchange, and when the referee parted them, Bakewell’s head retracted and he landed a massive head butt which immediately blackened Danny’s right eye. Official Darren Phillips instructed each judge to deduct a point from Bakewell, and the fighters resumed for round three.

Danny was first out of the blocks and pushed his opponent onto the ropes before unleashing a vicious right cross to the jaw of Bakewell, following up with a big knee to his solar plexus.

Bakewell once again butted Danny, which left Phillips no alternative other than to disqualify him and award the fight to the Burnley man.

Trainer Paul Murphy said: “Obviously nobody wants to win via a DQ, but at the end of the day a win is a win and Danny proved once again that he is the best out there.

“He is an absolute credit to himself and our gym.”

Danny and Andy will meet again for the UKMTO British title on November 27th in Burnley at the Masonic Hall where there will hopefully be a world title fight too.
