Burnley suffered a disappointing last-minute loss away at Ashton under Lyne on Saturday.

In appalling conditions, the game was a very poor advert and ill-tempered.

Burnley were the more fluid in the first half, but good runs from wingers Matt Crowley and Mike Bell just came up short as the first half finished scoreless.

In the second half, Ashton took the lead from a penalty after Burnley infringed.

An injury meant Crowley had to slot in at fly half, and James Henderson switched from the forwards to the wing.

Burnley upped their game and there were good drives from Richard Murray, Adam and Ben Healy before, eventually, Nino Angelone powered over to give the locals the lead at 5-3.

However, with the clock ticking, a penalty was awarded to the home side, who duly converted with the last kick of the game to win 6-5, as Burnley stay sixth in North Lancs 1.

Meanwhile, Burnley seconds beat Fylde 24-0 in another excellent performance.

Chris Stothard scored a hat-trick, with Chris Baxendale also scoring a try, while Adam Spencer added two conversions.

The thirds, who sealed promotion last week, won again at Tyldesley on Saturday and inched nearer the Division 5 North league title, with Clitheroe seconds - their closest rivals - nine points adrift with two games in hand.

Matt Fisher, Dom Leck and Lloyd Whittaker scored the tries. and Leck added a conversion.

Andy Emmott and Tom Cooley both had excellent games.

The Under 11s had a fantastic 56-5 win at Keighley.

Burnley’s scorers were Max Cudworth, Isaac Long, Toby Cole, Spencer Wilkes, Liam Bythell and Bram Richmond, with braces from Patrick Hudson and Callum Kirby.

Cole added three conversions.

Tomorrow, the seconds host Southport at 2 p.m.

On Sunday, the tags /Under 9s play Rossendale and Bolton, while the Under 11s take on Rossendale, and the Under 13s are in training.
