Burnley Shotokan Karate Club, based at the Spirit of Sport Centre on Ormerod Road, had six members selected to represent England at the WUKF European championships in Sheffield.
Matt Keys and Brandon Carr competed in the cadet team Shobo ippon and team rotation with very creditable performances, gaining bronze medals on both events, losing to Poland in the semi-final .
Jodie Carr, two-time British Under 11 champion gained bronze in shobo nihon.
Lucie Marsh won the silver medal in veterans’ Kata with excellent performances of Gojushiho-sho, Sochin and Bassai-dai.
Club instructor Nick Keys retired with an arm injury and John Carr lost to the French champion in the second round.
The club attends events all over the UK, with the next competition being the SKU British Open in November.
The next WUKF event for the club is the World Junior Championships in 2014 in Poland.
