Burnley Gymnastics Club gymnasts were in impressive form at the recent 2018 Milano Invitational 4-piece competition organised by City of Preston Gymnastics Club.
A squad of 23 gymnasts represented the club at the competition among gymnasts from Bolton, South Manchester, Bury and Liverpool Gymnastics Clubs.
On day one, Francesca Varey and Katie Hornby were the first to pick up medals, with Katie getting all round gold from the four pieces of apparatus.
Blossom Harrison, Ebony Simpson and Erin Murphy quickly followed suit, picking up gold, silver and bronze medals on individual pieces.
Abbie Wheeler recovered very well from a mistake on her vaults to take a brilliant gold on beam, and Phoebe Barron took gold overall to finish the first session of the day.
In the second round of the day, more brilliant performances followed, including Olivia Lomax, who picked up two bronze medals, and Isla Barnes, who got gold on beam.
Iona Lochrie and Maisie Aherne completed the day’s proceedings fantastically by finishing first and second overall.
Day two started as the first day finished, with Lillia Bradford, Isobel Brown and Lyra Stretch straight into the medals, with Lyra taking home all round gold for the second year on the trot.
Lexi Hoggatt completed another solid performance, picking up bronze medals on two pieces of apparatus.
Madison Hull completed a fantastic weekend for the club, taking home all round gold.
Head Coach Kim Sharples said: “The girls really have been working hard in the gym and the performances showed this.
“It was a brilliant weekend for the club with a total of 49 medals picked up.”
